It’s with heavy hearts that we share the news of the recent passing of our friend Dan Moynihan, the creator of Mark & Zark. Dan passed away suddenly on December 21, 2025 and leaves behind his wife Cathy and their 14 month old son, Ben. Dan loved cartooning and loved being a dad even more.

Dan joined our Sunday Haha family in 2020, with the first Mark & Zark strip appearing in Issue 14. Week after week, we all looked forward to reading the ongoing adventures of young Mark and his goofy Martian friend Zark. Dan’s brightly colored, playful comics were an essential part of Sunday Haha, and we are so grateful for his contribution.

We are planning a celebration of Dan and his artwork in the new year. In the meantime, please consider donating to the GoFundMe that supports Dan’s young son Ben.

Dan’s kind spirit will continue to live on through his work. We hope you’ll read some of his comics today with your loved ones in his honor.

As we mentioned a few issues ago, this is our last issue of Sunday Haha. It is time for us to move on. To our paid subscribers, payments have already been suspended since August 19, 2024. Thank you for your support. We would not have made it to Issue 238 without you!

We started Sunday Haha as a way to inspire and connect young readers with comics for all ages. Since then we’ve shared over a thousand comic strips from nearly 50 cartoonists, and there's been a flourishing of new comics titles in bookstores and
libraries. We are very proud of Sunday Haha's small part in this growth.

It's been an honor to be part of your reading lives for the past five
years. All of our past issues will stay up so you can always revisit
your favorite strips.

Dear Sunday Haha Comics Family,

Sunday Haha is officially retiring. On January 12, 2025 we will send out our last batch of Sunday Haha comics in Issue 238: The Retirement Party. We will miss having new strips for you every Sunday but we are also excited for what’s next. Sunday Haha has over two hundred issues of comics for young readers and now its time for it to move on to new endeavors, like finally learning to play the saxophone!

All our past issues will continue to be up for you to visit whenever you desire. If you have any thoughts you’d like to share with us, let us know in the comments. And we still have five more issues coming!

Since last summer, we have been working with teens at the Mountain Lakes Public Library in New Jersey to make our comics more accessible to people who have low vision and who are blind.

How can we make comics more accessible?

Sunday Haha includes alt text (a text description that can be read by a screen reader) in all our comics (hover your cursor on any comic to read the alt text). You can learn more about how to write alt text here: https://www.rnib.org.uk/campaign-with-us/alt-text-campaign/how-can-i-write-alt-text/

Who writes the alt text for Sunday Haha?

Teens in the Makerspace program have been working behind the scenes to write better alt text for our comics. Check out Sunday Haha Issues 11-20 to read their alt text. Makerspace Program Director, Mr. Matty, says, “Our goal is to be brief, express the spirit of the comic, and make a kid laugh!”

How can we make alt text better?

While working on the project, we learned that we should place comic descriptions in a visible place where sighted people can also read them and not just in the code of the alt text.

How else can we improve Sunday Haha for people who are blind or have low vision?

The Makerspace teens have created 3-D printouts of the comics characters. They also plan to work with elementary students to record narration which will be added to the comics in Sunday Haha–stay tuned for that! They will be presenting their improvements to elementary schoolers who are blind or have low vision to find out if they are effective.
