Reggie by Jen de Oliveira

A reader sends in a question to Reggie the kid penguin. “How did you get your name? From Ethan.” Reggie answers that his mama gave him his name. His full name is Reginald Guinn. But everyone calls him Reggie. Reggie says, “But there were other names Mama almost picked.” Around Reggie are written names, “Marty, Billy, Davy, Squibby, Zippy and Peewee.” The name “Squibby” is written in bubble letters. Below the name, Reggie stands with sweat drops and a stressed face saying, “Can you imagine if I were Squibby, I wouldn’t be me.”

What would Squibby be like?

The waiter is asked by the Werewolf if they can change their silverware to plastic because they are severely allergic to silver.” The waiter says yes and Peter watches. The father says, “That’s the first time I’ve seen someone eat lobster with a spork.”

Marcia uses a telescope to watch Mark and Zark across the street. They are in their room doing something. Marcia says they are definitely up to something and that no one even knows what their science project is going to be. She looks at the blue prints of her science project on her desk and tells herself they couldn’t possibly catch up to her in just a week. The drawings on the blueprint have a propeller, flame, and water in a large vessel.
