Bug Zapper by Tom Eaton

A brown bug with green gloves and a yellow and black striped bug are standing together. “This says that each year at Thanksgiving, the president pardons a turkey,” says the black and yellow big, reading out of a book. “I could use a presidential pardon,” says the brown bug. “Me too,” says the black and yellow bug. They disguise themselves as turkeys and make turkey sounds in hopes of getting pardoned by the president.

What is a presidential pardon?

Peter Cadaver by Stan Yan

Peter and Patty are sitting on the couch watching TV. "...and in an annual holiday tradition, the President pardons the White House turkey," reads the voiceover. "What happens to the turkey?" asks Peter. Just then, the doorbell rings, and he goes to open it. Outside is a purple turkey in an orange shirt who says, “Good sir, I’m with the charitable foundation for displaced turkeys.”

Smol Frens by Kaeti Vandorn

Two smol frens, one shaped like a hexagon and one shaped like a circle, are running along a path next to moss-covered rocks and trees with autumn leaves. A signpost next to them reads "Bigtop Hill". "I know we came here last year…” says one. “...But everything looks different in a new season!” The two stand at the top of the hill, looking at the nature around them. “I’m excited for winter!” says one. “Me too!” replies the other.

Reggie by Jen de Oliveira

A piece of paper with writing and drawings by Reggie. “Last night, Mama made me try something terrible:” In the drawing, Reggie leans away from a plate held by Mama with an alarmed expression. “Squash!” she says from off panel. “Would YOU eat something that sounds like it got stepped on?” The drawing is of a pair of shoes stepping on bugs and sandwiches. “I told Mama I’m allergic. She says if I don’t eat it, she’ll take me to the doctors’ for an allergy test!” The drawing shows Reggie asking, “Will there be needles?” “YES!” says Mama from off panel. The last piece of text reads: “Guess what? Squash is pretty good! It’s like a pickle that doesn’t make your face scrunch up.” In the drawing, Reggie holds out an empty plate, saying “More please!”

Have you ever tried squash?
