Joonbug’s World by Imani Lateef

Joonbug, a blue bug robot is flying and says, “Hey, Ariel. This is Joonbug coming in for a landing. Ariel is a red-haired kid with a flower in their hair and talking into a phone headset. Ariel says, “Roger that, Joonbug. You’re clear to land.” SPLAK! Ariel looks at her salad bowl with Joonbug in it and says, “Hey, you’re not clear to land in my lunch!” Joonbug says with a tomato on his head, “Roger that!”

Do you know anyone that says, “Roger that”?

A bear in the river tells the skunk who is also standing in the river that it has to be grabbed by its back pinchers. The skunk calls the bear swagger pants and tells him to try and do it. The bear grabs something in the river with wide eyes and says, “Got it!” Suddenly, the Bear screams. Yowch. A tiny crawdaddy has bit the bear’s finger. The skunk laughs and says, “ A truly exceptional display of finesse.”

Small Word Rat and Big Word Rat are driving in a car. Big Word Rat keeps screaming, “Discontinue forward momentum!” The Small Word Rat is driving and asks what that means. Crash! They run into a giant Stop sign. Small Word Rat says, “Oh.”

What’s another way to say, “stop”?

A little green monster with one eye says to another green monster with yellow hair, “What time is it?” The yellow-haired monster replies, “Game time!” The monster asks again, “What time do you have?” The other monster says, “Time is an illusion, my friend.” The monster looks bothered and says, “So you don’t know what time it is…” The yellow-haired monster says, “Time to get a new watch!” The monster puts his hand on his face.

Belly, a round squirrel is stuffing something into a blue mailbox. She jumps down on to the sidewalk and Norma, a triangular squirrel asks her what she is doing. Belly explains she is sending half a cookie to her future self.

A red and black woodpecker follows a pink pig as it sniffs its way through the forest. The woodpecker thinks of a big roasted meat. The pig finds what it was sniffing around for– a giant pile of truffles! The woodpecker says, “Blech!” The pig is happy laying on the pile and says, “Yum!”

A brown worm waits with a smaller pink worm in an orthodontist office. A worm assistant calls out, “Wormal!” The pink worm goes into the office. When the pink worm comes back out the brown worm asks how it went. The pink worm smiles to show their new shiny braces. Bling!
