Hama & Pici by Alexis E. Fajardo

Hama and Pici A pink pig rests its head on a rock. Its head has three large bumps on it with spirals and stars coming out of them. A red woodpecker studies the bumps and then starts hammering at them with its beak. TOK! TOK! TOK! WAK! WAK! WAK! The woodpecker pats down the blonde bangs over its flat head. Pat pat pat. The pig stands and shakes hands with the woodpecker. Suddenly, double the bumps that were there pop up on the pig’s head again. Pop! Pop! Pop! The pig chases the woodpecker angrily.

Norma and Belly by Mika Song

Norma and Belly. Belly the round squirrel tells Norma the pointy squirrel that the binoculars she is using are amazing and she sees someone eating a muffin. Norma says they should go down there and charm the person into feeding them. Belly says yes and tosses the binoculars over the wall. The binocular strap is behind Belly’s feet. Woop. Belly flips up and falls too. Norma screams, “Meet you down there!”

Peter Cadaver Belanie, the little witch kid with curly black hair says to Peter Cadaver, the Frankenstein-monster-looking kid, “Is it a friendship bracelet from Tam, or an enemy bracelet from Cat?” “I think it’s Tam.” answers Peter. The bracelet is made of little white cubes that spell ‘FRIENDSHIP’. “Definitely,” says Belanie. Belanie holds a bracelet that has cubes that spell, ‘STINKY’. “Definitely from Cat,” says Peter. “Wanna trade?” says Belanie.

Little Green Monsters A green one-eyed monster with yellow hair and a pink bow in it sits at a school desk labelled, ‘Mabel’. Mabel raises her hand. She keeps raising her hand and begins to sweat. The background color changes to orange. Her other hand is wrapped around her back and grabbing her raised hand now. A big green one-eyed monster with orange flip hair and a pink smock dress over a blue blouse and holding a small stick says, “Yes, Ms. Mabel.” Mabel runs out the door saying, “Please! Please! Please! May I go to the bathroom? Okay thanks, Byeee!” The chalkboard has writing on it that says, “Math what is it even?” And a poster of a one-eyed monster with curly hair is labeled, ‘George Washington Monster’.

SMALL WORD RAT & BIG WORD RAT “Snickerdoodle, rutabaga, apple sauce’ means I’m frustrated. Do you understand frustrated?” says the Big Word Rat to Small Word Rat. A small rat with a striped sweater says, “Of course. Like when I’m half sad and half mad.” Big Word Rat says, “So Small Word Rat, how do you express yourself when you’re frustrated?” “I just say ‘Rats’ and take a deep breath!”

Mark & Zark by Dan Moynihan

Mark & Zark Outside the school a Science Fair banner hangs on a red brick wall. Students are gathered around the science teacher, an orange-haired man with green glasses and a plaid shirt. The teacher says, “Next up we have Mark and Zark with their original origamibots.” Mark has curly purple hair and is waving to the class. Zark, the green martian disguised as a kid in a blonde bob wig and a hooded sweatshirt is next to him smiling. Mark holds up a green paper and says, “Observe this ordinary square piece of flat paper.” Zark says, “Um, Mark…” Mark says, “What?” “I think you forgot something…” “Your pants!” whispers Zark. Mark looks down and he is wearing white underwear. The students are all laughing. Ha-ha-ha! Hee-Hee-hee! A girl with blue hair says, “Oh my!”

Wagnificent A medium-sized brown dog shivers in a dog bed and says, “I’m cold.” A wise-looking gray wolf says, “A wolf must learn to endure hardships– ice, snow, hail. . .” The wolf imagines a team of wolves pulling a sled through snow. “Wind, rain, floods…” says the Wolf. From off the panel the dog says “Hold on. I’ll be right back.” The dog returns wagging its tail and holding a blanket in its mouth. It asks the wolf, “Can you tuck me in?” The Wolf scowls.
